What kind of photographer are you?

I am a custom portrait photographer specializing in children, newborns, high school seniors and schools.  I do NOT offer stiff, posed, planned photographs.  Rather, I plan the session off of your child's mood and personality on the day of the shoot.  I often get asked how I get kids to smile and look natural in my work.  The answer is simple.  I don't ask them to smile!  We play games during our session, chat and totally have a great time.  This brings out natural expressions and leaves stiff, overly planned poses behind!

Where will my session be held?

I am an on-location photographer, which means I do not own a studio.  I will photograph you in the location of your choice.  For many families, this means I photograph at their homes.  For others, they choose to go to a local park or favorite family outing spot.  High school seniors often want to reflect their personalities with portraits of their hobbies, sports or passions.  We travel to the baseball field, the track or their favorite spot!  If you need suggestions for your location, I have plenty of ideas!  Newborn sessions take place in your home for your comfort.  I bring all the necessary equipment and take care of everything.  You just need to relax and enjoy the experience!

How long will my session be?

Session time varies based on the child I am photographing.  Newborns take more time due to feeding, changing and soothing - typically 2-3 hours.  Child sessions are 1 hour at most and senior sessions are 2 hours to allow for outfit changes.

What will my session be like?

I know, as Moms, we often stress about portrait sessions.  What if my child doesn't behave?  What if her hair is messed up? What if he decides to run around like a crazy man?  Sessions with Erin Wood Photography are easy and fun.  You will not need to worry about your child's behavior on the day of the session.  We are photographing his or her personality, so whatever he or she does is okay.  Many of my best portraits were taken when Mom or Dad were thinking their child was misbehaving.  I suggest that parents do not bribe their child or put too much importance on the session by telling kids they need to behave.  Rather, plan to get a treat before or after the session and make it part of the experience.  Explain to your child that I will be taking their pictures, but we are going to the park to have some fun!  I have stickers, smarties and games galore to keep your child occupied and having fun!

What should I wear?

I suggest that families and children wear clothes that match their session.  If you are looking for a casual feel, don't wear your Sunday best!  If we are capturing your child's personality, make the clothes represent who your child is right now!  Don't worry about your family wearing matching outfits in portraits.  Often, if you are going to be photographed with your child, I suggest you wear something of the same color family, but not necessarily the same outfit as your child.  Think of Gap Kids or Gymboree clothing collections.  The clothes are often the same colors, but not matching exactly.

How can I order prints and products from you?

After your session, we will plan an ordering session here, at my home in Southington.  I will show you all your proofs in a beautiful slideshow set to music.  After, I can show you all the products I offer.  My software will even show you how certain sizes and pictures will look hung on the wall of your living room!  As part of my superior, custom experience, I am available for questions and even to measure your home for the perfect wall piece!

Will I get digital photos from my session?

I am a full service photographer aiming to get your memories and portraits printed and into your hands and on your walls.  I sell archival digital files for the purpose of saving your photos, but it is not the sole focus of my sessions.  When you order prints or products of your portraits, you will receive low resolution, digital copies of the prints you ordered to use on social media and to email to family and friends.
